The Engine

Whole Life Insurance

A place to store wealth that grows on a guaranteed schedule, earns dividends on top, and doubles as a line of credit that's guaranteed for life.

What it is

Under the hood

Whole life is permanent insurance with a savings engine inside. Part of every premium builds cash value that grows on a guaranteed schedule, and a strong mutual carrier adds dividends on top. Dividends aren't guaranteed, but the carriers I work with have paid them for more than 150 years in a row, through depressions, wars, and every rate cycle in between.

The death benefit matters, and it was never in question. The part most policies waste is the living benefit. Your cash value can back loans for anything life asks you to finance, while the full balance keeps compounding inside the policy. That's the engine of a personal banking system.

Design decides everything

Not all whole life policies are created equal

The default design is all base premium, a big death benefit, and almost no cash value in the first year. A well-designed policy flips that. Small base, big paid-up additions, and a term rider holding the death benefit up. You get high cash value early, and the agent gets paid less. That's not a side effect. It's the point.

I design for high cash value and low expense, the same way I built my own policies. You can watch me walk through the real annual statements on the channel.

The honest trade-offs

What this is, and what it isn't

The growth is steady, closer to the safety of bonds than the ride of stocks. Next to your riskier investing, that's a feature, but this isn't where you chase big returns. Quit a default-design policy early and you'll likely lose money. And a caveat worth carrying: dividends taken as cash above what you've paid in do get taxed.

If your cash flow isn't ready to fund a policy consistently, fix that first. The free lessons on moving money efficiently are where to start, and the policy will still be here when the dollars are.
